First Mate’s Platter
$225.00
First Mate’s Platter is 60 oysters, shucked fresh, served on a platter of ice with our house mignonette, our pickled pepper hot sauce, lemons, and fresh horseradish. The 60 oyster platter for medium-group hosting. Engagement parties. Office celebrations. A backyard dinner where the count includes “and bring whoever you want.” Built for the table that wants the appetizer to last as long as the conversation.
What’s on the platter
- 60 freshly shucked oysters on a bed of ice
- ‘Wandering Mollusk’ mignonette
- ‘Wandering Mollusk’ pickled pepper hot sauce
- Lemons
- Fresh horseradish
Who it’s for
For groups of six to eight where everyone gets enough to actually settle in. For hosts who don’t want to keep refilling. For the moment in the night when the second course is still 45 minutes out and the table needs something to do.
Sixty oysters is the sweet spot. Enough to share without rationing. Not so many that they sit too long on ice.
Local sourcing
Oysters are sourced from Pacific Northwest farms we work with year-round, depending on season and availability. We get on the phone with the farms most mornings. The mignonette and pickled pepper hot sauce are our own recipes, made in-house. The horseradish is fresh grated, never out of a jar.
Why locals order it
First Mate’s Platter is the platter for events that don’t need full catering but do need to land well. We shuck the oysters the morning of pickup. The platter is built so it travels and serves without anyone needing to plate. Most events ordering this 60 oyster platter pair it with a cocktail hour or use it as the opening volley before a main course.
If you’re feeding more than 10 people, look at the Captain’s Platter (100 oysters), or get in touch through wanderingmollusk.com/services for custom catering at any scale.
What to drink with it
Oysters pair hardest with crisp, dry, cold. We suggest a Muscadet or a Chablis if the budget allows, a dry BC Riesling if you want to stay in country. Champagne is the classic move if the occasion calls for it. Beer drinkers, a stout works against the grain in a way you’ll want to try. Cocktail people, a martini straight up with a twist.
Pickup and prep
