That Other Sauce

$10.50

That Other Sauce is the bottle that doesn’t have an obvious name because it doesn’t need one. It started in our kitchen as the sauce we wanted next to the bucket. Roasted tomato, roasted onion, banana pepper, pepperoncini, habanero, Spanish paprika, mustard, apple cider vinegar. Gluten free, sugar free. This BC hot sauce hangs in the middle of sweet, smoky, and hot, then leaves you reaching for the bottle again.

What’s in it

  • Roasted tomato
  • Roasted onion
  • Bell pepper
  • Banana pepper
  • Pepperoncini
  • Habanero
  • Garlic
  • Carrot
  • Spanish paprika
  • Mustard
  • White vinegar, apple cider vinegar
  • Salt, pepper
  • Xanthan gum (thickens, no sugar)

Gluten free. Sugar free. Heat sits at “you can taste your food,” not “you can’t taste your food.”

Where it goes

That Other Sauce was built for seafood, but most regulars use it for everything else first. We suggest:

  • On a fried egg sandwich in the morning
  • Stirred into mayo for a quick aioli
  • Brushed onto chicken before the grill
  • Spooned across a grilled cheese
  • Mixed into a Bloody Mary
  • Tossed with roasted potatoes
  • And, yes, on the prawns and the crab

Where it came from

We needed a sauce next to the seafood boil bucket that worked across everything in the pot. Tomato heat for the corn. Vinegar sharpness for the shellfish. Something with enough body to coat a prawn without drowning it. We made a few versions, settled on this one, and then customers started asking to buy bottles to take home. So we started selling it.

Who it’s for

For the kitchen that already has three other hot sauces in the door of the fridge and is open to a fourth. For people who don’t want their sauce to taste like nothing but heat. For cooks who want one bottle that gets used on more than one thing. Solid pantry hot sauce. Also a good gift, especially with a bucket.

Pickup and shipping

Order on demand. Pickup at Shuck Taylor’s, 1324 Blanshard Street, Sunday through Saturday from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The sauce is shelf-stable until opened. Refrigerate after opening, lasts well in the fridge for a few months. Travels fine.
